Wire Rope Scrap Standard？

When the wire rope is used to a certain degree of damage, it must be scrapped according to the regulations. The scrapping standards are as follows:

①When the number of broken wires in each pitch (also called pick-up pitch, refers to the axial length of any general winding in the wire rope) exceeds the number specified in Table 2.4, it shall be scrapped. The number of broken wires in the wire rope is not large, but it should be scrapped when the number of broken wires increases rapidly.

②When the wire wear or corrosion of the wire rope reaches or exceeds 40% of the original wire diameter, it should be scrapped. Those within 40% should be downgraded according to Table 2.5. When the outer surface of the whole Steel Wire Rope is corroded and the pitted surface is easily visible to the naked eye, it should be scrapped. 

③ The Steel Wire rope should be scrapped if it is subjected to fire or partial arc.

④The wire rope should be scrapped when it is flattened and deformed, there is strand or wire extrusion, cage distortion, local increase in rope diameter, kink, and bending.
⑤ If the rope core is damaged and the rope diameter is significantly reduced (up to 7%), it should be scrapped.
⑥ For steel wire ropes for hoisting and transporting hot metal or dangerous goods, the number of scrapped and broken wires shall be half of the number of broken wires of general crane wire ropes, including the reduction of surface wear or corrosion of the wire rope.
